Online Appraisal

About Online Appraisal

We help Auckland homeowners find out what their property is worth by connecting them with a licensed agent who actually sells in their suburb. It is free, and there is no obligation to list with anyone.

Why we exist

Most homeowners start with an online estimate. Those tools are useful for a rough sense of the market, but they work from council records and settled sales — they have never been inside your house. They cannot see the new bathroom, the re-clad exterior, the retaining wall that needs work, or whether your site can take another dwelling under the Unitary Plan. Those things are usually where the real difference in price sits.

The fix is not a better algorithm. It is someone who sells houses in your street standing in your lounge for fifteen minutes. Our job is to make that easy to arrange and free to the homeowner.

How we choose agents

  • Licensed under the Real Estate Agents Act 2008, checked against the Real Estate Authority public register
  • Actively selling in the suburb — not an agent from across town who will take the listing and learn the area later
  • Willing to give a written appraisal with the comparable sales it is based on
  • Removed from the panel if homeowners tell us they were pushy or slow to call

How we are paid

The appraisal is free to you. We are paid by the agent — either a referral fee if you go on to list with them, or a subscription for the right to receive appraisal requests from their suburb. You are never charged, and the agent's fee to us does not change what you pay them if you sell.

We say this plainly because a homeowner deserves to know who is paying for the free thing they were offered. It also means our incentive is to send you an agent you will actually want to work with, not simply the one who bid highest.

Where we work

We cover 40 suburbs across 4 areas of greater Auckland. We would rather do a few parts of the city thoroughly than claim the whole country and know none of it.

About our market figures

Where we publish a market figure, it carries the source, the period it covers and the area it describes. Sale price data is reported at district level, so a figure on a suburb page describes the district that suburb sits in — not your individual property. Where we cannot source a current figure, we leave it out rather than estimate one.
